Maryland’s MEDEVAC System and MVA Surcharges:
A Promise Broken

The highly praised Med-Evac helicopters may look golden to many, but the truth is the system designed to save lives of the most severely injured patients is draining the pockets of Maryland taxpayers when a more efficient operation is available.

The helicopters used by the Maryland State Police are among the most expensive of their type to purchase and operate. And the vast majority of the flights aren’t necessary.

Whether, it be a helicopter door falling off, helicopter tail section broken off or a major helicopter crash, It is not the Dauphin helicopter.

Helicopter scene response time are generally “too long”, it is not the Dauphin helicopter.

Many things like the systems helicopters, facilities, systems and infrastructure have grown out of proportion to the need. We, the legislature, taxpayers, and systems need to remember what got us here and find ways to make systems more efficient, not grow larger and cost the taxpayers even more.
